ABOUT

phoenixRISING is committed to responding to the California housing crises as as if it really is… a crises.

Today in California, it takes 3 to 5 years or more to develop housing. The City of Los Angeles is paying upwards of $800,000 per apartment for homeless housing. And workforce housing is simply not available for our first responders, nurses, and teachers… the folks who merely make our cities work. That is not a sufficient response to the crises at hand. It is possible to deliver housing in less time and half the cost with the application of new technologies. Moreover, we do not accept government assisted financing… and not because we are philosophically against blended financing. It just adds time to the development cycle and doesn’t fit our mission to address this crisis.

PhoenixRISING was founded, in part, by veterans initially focused on housing, care and job training for homeless veterans. We have recognized that the resources, skills and container and metal modular technologies we bring to bear on this issue allows us to also address the additional markets of workforce housing and small homes. Cities and communities have begun to appreciate the absolute imperative of having a sustainable model for the attraction and retention of a diverse resident population. The expansion of the mission from homeless to affordable housing and small homes gives phoenixRISING the financial resources to continue its core mission and create a sustainable business model. PhoenixRISING organizes the social and government partnerships necessary for success… finds appropriate land… and facilitates the building and installation of a range of housing communities. The two principals have a combined experience base of over 80 years in real estate financing, development, planning and design. They bring to each phoenixRISING community the combined expertise of MINDLINconsulting, Pacific Heights Holdings, The BROADBANDcollaborative and, of course, phoenixRISING.

Homeless Housing

Homelessness in America is a serious problem that not only destroys lives and has manifold costs to society... it also robs us of our own humanity. There are more than 1,600,000 homeless in American… men, women and children. More than 40,000 veterans are homeless. For years, state and national government has struggled with the needs of the homeless, without much success.

Capitalism in pursuit of its own enlightened self-interests can be a powerful force for good.

Working in support of a committed group of businesses, our goal is to help the homeless acquire new jobs in emerging industries that will require a new hi-tech workforce. Our model is very focused: house, heal, train and employ. Alignment between the private sector, social agencies and corporate America can complete the cycle of transition from street life to productive engagement and we then promote this good that further encourages more positive actions by corporate America.

House

Metal modular housing shall be planned to create a sense of community and designed for a higher quality of life with shared services for food and wellness. Site acquisition will be focused on land that is ideally suited for this use and does not create impediments from the local community.

Heal

phoenixRISING will identify local and regional agencies to partner with that will be highly qualified to treat the body and soul of the homeless and the homeless veterans.

Train

phoenixRISING will work with Fortune 500 companies to train veterans in the high tech jobs of the future. Veterans and other homeless will be trained as future workforce for participating Fortune 500 companies according to the requirements and curriculum of each participating firm.

Employ

Each corporate sponsor is required to commit to hiring a predetermined number of homeless.

Promote

Our sister company, Persona Communications, provides promotion services that will monetize corporate giving and tell their story to important stakeholders and the public at large. This is a critical component that insures Phoenix Rising is a sustainable business model and our corporate sponsors stay engaged in this mission.

Workforce Housing

Workforce housing is a better name for “affordable” housing simple because it keeps us focused on the people we serve. Every community needs to provide for those that sacrifice for the greater good. Teacher, nurses, police and firemen… just to name a few… are the backbone of our communities. It is in all our best interests that they can live in the communities they serve. And, they deserve to live their lives and raise families in decent housing in great neighborhoods that are affordable, green and life sustaining. Our housing is customized designed to each market.

Small Homes

The average cost of homes in California is $850,000 and rising. This is not sustainable and the skill sets and technology we bring to bear on the homeless and affordable markets gives us the ability to address this larger question, as well. California and other markets need a small, modern, earthquake resistant $450,000 home that is innovative, green, efficient and wonderful.
